Liberty Elementary School

Salt Lake City, UT

Liberty Elementary School is a two-story elementary school with an attached community health center that serves the surrounding neighborhoods in the Salt Lake School District.

Liberty Elementary School was completed on time and on budget, thanks to a detailed schedule.

Hughes used a project closeout process that utilized specialized software that increased the quality of the completed elementary school project while decreasing the time required to achieve project completion. This helped maintain quality and efficiency throughout the construction phase. Specifically, Hughes used this technology to generate, disperse and complete punch-list items, which streamlined the closeout process and lead to the Liberty Elementary School project’s on-time completion.

The building design incorporates brick and metal paneling along the building’s exterior. The brick offers a classical component, while the metal paneling brings a modern appeal to the school. To continue in the vein of modern design, brick was also integrated along the interior walls. The interior of the school utilizes large high-volume spaces and corridors for an open floor plan. Large tiles were also laid for more durability in high traffic areas. Most of the interior spaces have large windows to allow natural light and minimize fluorescent lighting. The polished concrete stairs were placed along large floor-to-ceiling glass windows to allow natural light to flood the walkways and adjacent corridors. Circular light fixtures offer small hints of modern design throughout the interior spaces. Pops of color, namely lime green and light blue, accent the various hallway walls and white and grey tiling.
