Granite Library
July 12, 2022
The Granite Library is a wonderful example of both modern and traditional construction elements combined to create an incredible space. The 31,000 square foot new library can hold up to 100,000 books and resides on the site of the former Granite High School.
At the suggestion of Hughes General Contractors, reclaimed materials from the high school were used throughout the building. Reclaimed wood and a tile mosaic from the old high school were used in the building’s construction. Included in the design were large black and white photographs on meeting room walls and the school song was etched into the glass doors. A “Farmer’s Way” exhibit houses several artifacts and memorabilia from the old Granite High School.
Accompanying the traditional touches are new facilities to serve the public. The library now has a creativity lab, a video production room and green screen, teen and children areas, public computer stations, business center, study rooms, and meeting rooms. Among the community spaces are a full outdoor playground, outdoor amphitheater, a plaza area with parking and electrical hookups for food trucks, and walking trails that tie into the nearby trail system and sidewalks.

Ibapah Elementary School replacement is on its way!
Tooele County School District celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Ibapah Elementary on April 12, 2021, at 1 p.m. The Ibapah Eagles grabbed their shovels for the greatly anticipated groundbreaking ceremony for their new schoolhouse.
The current facility is a unique two-room schoolhouse that has served the students of Ibapah and surrounding areas for the past 61 years. The school has reached a point where it no longer meets today’s building standards and does not fully support our educational curriculum.
The new building will have three classrooms, a multipurpose room, kitchen and food storage area, media center with lab, and an area for teacher collaboration. New playground equipment will also be installed. The current school was built in 1961 and has an ideal capacity of 40 with 4,907 square feet. The new building will be 9,047 square feet with a capacity of 60 students and is expected to open in February of 2022. This construction project will cost approximately $4 million.
Currently, we have our foundation slab poured and timber going up! Check out https://www.tooeleschools.org/apps/pages/IbapahElementaryConstruction for drone footage and updates as the project moves forward! GO EAGLES!

PSA Speaking on Business from the SLC Chamber
The Salt Lake Chamber · Speaking on Business: UAEC Pathways
This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business.
The pandemic has disrupted not only our work lives but shifted demand for specific jobs across our state. One industry that continues to thrive in Utah is the construction industry and those who support construction. This year 8,400 construction jobs were added in the state and every year there is a need to fill an average of 5,000 new jobs.
To help high school graduates enter this field and earn a certificate toward an exciting new career Utah has the UAEC pathway program. The Utah Architectural, Engineering and Construction Pathway is a Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) career-based curriculum geared toward students interested in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) field. The capstone experience is placement as an intern with a local AEC company, benefiting student learners and solving the labor shortages in the construction industry.
Careers in this industry provide sustainable employment. If you are a high school graduate interested in buildings, design and how parts and pieces go together; or if you want a high-paying, high-potential rewarding career, you might consider this option.
These are occupations with a high degree of security and stability as you grow into project management, interior design, or working as an electrician, or architect. The UAEC slogan is dream it, design it, build it. In this way can help create a more sustainable future in our state.
Check out UAECpathways.com to learn more.
