Granite Library

July 12, 2022

The Granite Library is a wonderful example of both modern and traditional construction elements combined to create an incredible space. The 31,000 square foot new library can hold up to 100,000 books and resides on the site of the former Granite High School.

At the suggestion of Hughes General Contractors, reclaimed materials from the high school were used throughout the building. Reclaimed wood and a tile mosaic from the old high school were used in the building’s construction. Included in the design were large black and white photographs on meeting room walls and the school song was etched into the glass doors. A “Farmer’s Way” exhibit houses several artifacts and memorabilia from the old Granite High School.

Accompanying the traditional touches are new facilities to serve the public. The library now has a creativity lab, a video production room and green screen, teen and children areas, public computer stations, business center, study rooms, and meeting rooms. Among the community spaces are a full outdoor playground, outdoor amphitheater, a plaza area with parking and electrical hookups for food trucks, and walking trails that tie into the nearby trail system and sidewalks.
