Polk Elementary is the longest continuously functioning elementary school in Northern Utah and has been an integral part of the community for many years. The building is 102,103 square feet which includes the original school designed by architect Leslie Hodgson in 1926. The 3 floored structure is a mix of both old and new, with materials comprising of concrete block, natural maple, ceramic tile, painted pressed fiber panels, perforated steel, and dichroic glass. The remodel is a seamless blend of the original aesthetic and much needed modern upgrades.

Some of the challenges the team faced was a limited staging area and tight construction access due to established neighborhood with narrow streets and a tree protection area safeguarding the 100-year-old sequoias, original to the school.

The ribbon cutting hosted over 200 visitors, several of which attended the school in the 1940’s and 1950’s.

Type of construction – Remodel, demolition and new build. Materials used were primarily brick and CMU.
