Sunburst Elementary School
Layton, UT
Sunburst Elementary School is a two-story elementary school in Layton, Utah, that is just under 100,000 SF. The school’s theme, “Bodies in Motion: Rhythm,” aims to emphasize healthy, active lifestyles through the rhythm of music. The exterior metal panels represent rhythmic beats, while the different panel colors represent “measures.” The school includes an open entrance floor plan, with 12,500 SF of MagicSlab concrete flowing through the interior commons, maker’s space, and multi-purpose room. Uniquely the school includes a teacher prep/maker space—a single room with a Renlita partition door to divide space—to facilitate student teaching, teacher-to-teacher training, and conference calls. Despite a global pandemic and spring earthquake, Sunburst Elementary School was ready for school in August.
